Taitajien Taitaja (Best of the Best)
Max won a gold medal in property maintenance at the Taitaja 2024 competition in Kuopio. As part of his prize, he will drive a brand-new Volvo EX30 electric car next year.
Max chose vocational training after primary school because he enjoys practical work and recognizes his strengths in this area. “I want to use my manual skills because I’m really good at them. Vocational training opens doors and completing the training is proof of competence,” he explained.
Max’s coach and teacher, Patrick Enckell, is naturally proud of Max and all the students who participated in the Taitaja competition. “Participating in the competition requires a lot of courage. It’s good to challenge yourself and step out of your comfort zone,” Enckell pointed out.
Tuula Antola, the general director of Omnia, the Joint Authority of Education in the Espoo Region, is happy that Taitajien Taitaja comes from Omnia. “Taitajien Taitaja is the flagship of vocational education. This offers an excellent opportunity to promote the attractiveness of vocational education in the Espoo region and throughout Finland. Property maintenance is a field full of opportunities. I strongly believe that Max’s selection as Taitajien Taitaja will inspire others to join the industry,” Antola said.
Max, who is graduating as a property maintenance technician this year, chose the field because of its versatility, and he currently works in the maintenance of outdoor areas. The job includes versatile tasks, including yard maintenance and various repair and maintenance jobs. It also requires customer service skills and technical know-how. “And the ability to figure things out, to know where to start looking for problems. A property maintenance technician faces many different things. If you ask what they do, you won’t get the full picture. It is a very broad field. I’m glad I chose this field because now I know a lot about a lot of things,” Max described.
Max is excitedly looking forward to traveling to various events in his new electric Volvo.
Omnia’s students performed exceptionally well in the Taitaja 2024 finals, winning a total of two gold medals, one silver, and four bronze medals. This success highlights the high competence and dedication of Omnia’s students, as well as the quality of the professional education they receive.
Congratulations to Max and all the talented Omnia students!
