Centre of Communication for Youth – Chemical sector (C3) in The Netherlands
To meet the demands of the job market in The Netherlands, it is essential that more young people choose a career in technology. C3 is committed to providing quality study and career orientation and making STEM education more appealing, so that young people have the tools to make smart choices for their future, both during and after secondary school. This journey begins with discovering their interests and talents, and this exploration can’t start early enough.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths. STEM education is an integrated approach to learning. During STEM lessons and projects, an active interaction is formed between these four components: science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This integration emphasizes the importance of technological innovation and scientific research.
C3 has a large and dedicated network of (chemistry) teachers. Through the student platform exactwatjezoekt.nl, C3 helps young people with their STEM subjects and provides information about the work field and educational opportunities in science and technology.
Bèta Tournament
C3 wants to give vocational secondary education (vmbo) students the experience of working in a laboratory. That’s why C3 is a partner of the Bèta Tournament. This competition is primarily aimed at giving fourth-year vmbo-t students an unforgettable experience. In teams of three, they engage in interdisciplinary practical assignments that focus on the STEM subjects of biology, physics, and chemistry. A whole day spent conducting exciting experiments in a real lab – what a challenge! During the 2024/2025 school year, the Bèta Tournament will take place at three locations in the Netherlands, (the latest is 12th November) with plans to expand further in the coming years.
