Software developer students gathered at the Wasa Innovation Center for the third annual ICT-Bootcamp, which took place over the weekend from January 31st to February 2nd. The event offered students a unique opportunity to network and get acquainted with local technology companies.

Strengthening Networks and Skills
The main goals of the Bootcamp were clear: to strengthen the students’ teamwork and create connections with local companies. On Saturday, several companies participated, including ABB, Hitachi Energy, Digitalo, Wapice, and Platonic Partnership, with their representatives excited about the opportunity to meet the students and see their skills. The Vaasa University of Applied Sciences (VAMK) was also involved in the event.
– The response from the companies has been extremely positive. They are interested in our students’ skills and want to get to know them better, say the organisers of the Bootcamp, teachers Christer and Mikael Karlsson.

Hands-on Challenges and Learning
During the event, students received coding tasks from the companies, which they worked on intensively throughout the weekend. The challenges culminated in a report presentation where students shared their progress with both the companies and the school. Through the challenge tasks and workshops organized by the companies, the students were also able to learn about local businesses in preparation for their upcoming internships.

A Unique Community Experience
The Bootcamp is a completely voluntary and free event, providing students with the opportunity to stay overnight at the event location over the weekend. Many participants had joined the previous year and eagerly returned for another round.
– I had a really great experience from last year’s Bootcamp. You couldn’t organize something like this yourself even if you wanted to – a big group of people, great facilities, and free food and drinks.
– It’s rare to have an opportunity like this, where you get to code and hang out with fellow software developers, all organized by the school!

A Growing Tradition
The event is not only a fun experience for students but also an educational one that brings together both students and local technology companies. The ICT-Bootcamp has grown and solidified its place in the calendar of software developer students.
A big thank you to the companies that participated!
